I became a mom in August and once the holidays started approaching I was so excited to do all things holiday with my beautiful baby boy . I could hardly control my excitement. When Halloween came and Striker slept through his ENTIRE first trunk or treat experience I thought OH CRAP!!!! I got home and realized he is too little to enjoy the holidays but he is here and I can’t be THAT mom that doesn’t do jack squat with their baby! SO I thought to myself even though he is too little to understand what is going on and too little to enjoy kid events that doesn’t mean me and the hubs can’t enjoy HIM during the holidays!!! After all the holiday is a time of joy, thanksgiving, and love and babies fit in all 3 of those categories. SO we started doing little things that are fun for us to enjoy with him during this holiday season and we are LOVING it !!!
1.) Dress Your Baby in Holiday Clothes
Every morning change your baby out of their PJs and put them in something festive ! Even if you do not have a ton of holiday clothes, pick holiday colors ! Dress your stud muffin or darlin Princess in red , green, gold, silver, and plaids ! Onesies with holiday graphics and quotes are also a lot of fun and aren’t bad on your wallet either !
2.) Read A Christmas Book to Your Baby
Here is an excuse to go to Target incase you are like me and you look for any and all reasons to make a daily Target run ! Take your baby to your favorite store and pick out a new Christmas book or even a few new Christmas books and read the Christmas book to them everyday. They will begin to recognize the book, the colors are wonderful, and plus it’s pretty fun to create a Santa voice !
3.) Watch Kids Christmas Movies
NO our babies do not stay up for an entire movie and NO they do not know what is being said or what is going on during the movie. BUT the music, the movement, and the colors in Christmas movies keep their eyes opened a little longer and keeps the Christmas spirit high in your house hold ! You may notice your baby is partial to one movie and it grabs their attention more than the others it’s ok to play that one for them everyday (after this Christmas season me and the hubs will know ever line from the Grinch). After all you know they are enjoying it !
4.) Christmas NickNames
Pick out a Christmas nickname for your bundle of holiday cheer and call her/him that anytime you think of it ! Pick out a name like; Reindeer, Frosty, Santa, Elf, Grinch, Rudolf, Snowball, or anything else that reminds you of Christmas! It is not only fun for you but other family members start to catch on and start calling the baby by the Christmas nickname too !
(Striker is obviously SANTA!)
5.) Baby’s 1st Christmas Ornament
Make the picking out of your baby’s first Christmas ornament special. Take the baby with you , do it on a special date night with dad, or make it a surprise for dad! Pick a specific night when it’s just you, dad, the baby, and any other family members you want there to hang the baby’s first Christmas ornament!
6.) Take Your Cutie to see Santa !!
Though your cute baby will not know who Santa really is or what is going on they will love his RED suit and love looking at something and someone new. It’s also a great time to get a family photo and a baby’s 1st photo with Santa !
7.) Go Christmas Shopping
Set aside a day just for mom, dad, and baby to go Christmas shopping for everything baby !!! This will allow for both parents to get excited for Christmas giving ! After all this is your first year in your new role as SANTA (if you choose to do Santa). It will be a fun family outing for everyone and if your lucky it will cause a great nights sleep!!!
8.) Go See a Show
Once again our bundles of Christmas cheer will not really understand what is going on BUT babies love colors and they love music !! Attend a kid friendly Christmas play, light show, Santa’s Workshop, or a church Christmas program. They will be amazed at all of the lights , colors, dancing, music, and more !
9.) A Christmas Photo Shoot
It is baby’s 1st Christmas and lets be honest did you really celebrate it if you didn’t do a Christmas photo shoot and post the photos on Social Media ???!!! You can choose to hire a professional or set up your own in home mini photo shoot !!! Whatever works best for baby and budget either way you will be glad you have some fun pictures of your beautiful baby’s first Christmas!
10.) Celebrate this season with Family
You have a new baby and every close family member is dying to get time loving on your little one ! Your baby is literally the center of attention and everyone’s world right now !!! am I right or am I right !?!? Give them as much time as you can to enjoy this present with you during the season of celebration! Allow family to join in on your baby’s first Christmas! Have family members join you at shows, come to your home for visits, make special plans to go out to eat, go see the new Grinch in theaters, make the baby’s Christmas list for them, invite them over to do gingerbread houses, or have them come help you decorate! Find a way to get your family involved for your baby’s first Christmas! Make it a Christmas worth remembering for everyone !!
Blythe’s 2 Cents!
Moments are precious and your baby’s firsts are even more precious. This Christmas will be a Christmas you will always remember so make the best of it! No matter what is going on in your life, no matter how great, bad, or chaotic life may be with a new baby make this Christmas the best you can for yourself, your baby, and your family ! Do whatever it takes to get your Christmas spirit high and have some fun. But most importantly remember the real reason for the season, the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. If you fail to do anything else this Christmas take the time out to tell and teach your little one the real reason we celebrate not because of presents, Santa, food, or family that is just the perks of Christmas. Your little miracle may not understand now what you are saying but start their first Christmas out the right way by installing into their heart and soul the real meaning of Christmas. The real reason for Christmas is to set this time aside to recognize the birth of the one who gave it all to save us all. From my little family to yours Merry Christmas!!!!
